Need help on how to prepare to paint room?

I'm paiting my room ';stolen Kiss'; and ';caviar'; for the ceiling.

My room before is WHITE. (with writing on the walls also in permanent marker)

Do I need to paint the walls a certain color first..and THEN paint them ';stolen kiss'; and ';caviar';???

Or Do I just start painting.

The above answer is great.--

You can use either gray or white primer though- since you are doing it white I'd recommend the gray so you can see better where you have already painted.

Also, make sure to use good painters tape (usually blue type of masking tape) it releases from the walls better after a few days. Some state up to 14 day clean release.

Remove the light and outlet switch covers- it's much easier than covering them with tape and the paint gets on them and not the wall. This way you can paint the hole wall.

Do the ceiling, corners and edges first, this will look better after it's done and the hardest part is done when you're most enthusiastic...

What ever you don't want paint on- cover up or remove. That thing you want most to protect will always get painted.

Well first, get EVERYTHING out of the rooms. Lay a clear plastic sheet on the floor, covering everything, and tape with painter's tape along the wall all the way around. Make sure its secure against the wall, but make sure the plastic itself isn't stretched too tightly. Then make sure all your windows are covered with tape(at least the borders). If you have writing on your wall, you will need to get a white primer, and paint your walls with the primer. This is a good idea even if you dont' have the writing. Next, paint whatever colors you want. Ask your local paint store for the non-glossy primer.

Good Luck
There is absolutely no need to prime all surfaces if they are already painted, and are in good condition, i.e the old paint is sound and not 'chalking'. To stop the pen marks from 'bleeding through' any paint you put on, you need to seal them with a quality primer; {I would highly recommend Zinsser B-I-N or Cover Stain}, but again, you don't have to prime everything. And remember the 3 rules of surface preparation: The surface should be clean, dry and dull {de-glossed if 'shiny'}

Whoever gave me a thumbs down clearly has no idea what they're on about.
Your best bet is to prime the walls and ceiling with a stain killing primer, and you might want to have the primer tinted in a color that approaches your finish colors. This will save you time and money.

Do your ceiling first, and use a good quality roller so it wont splatter too much.

Marc
Seal the permanent marker back with a thin coat of an oil-based wood undercoat. Primer is not necessary nor appropriate on sound painted surfaces. Put thin polythene over furniture, but for safety use cloth dust sheets on floors.

you need to prime the walls first and use special primer to cover the permanent marker otherwise it will re surface after you have painted the room .
