well

after you paint the car

that is-she actually knows what shes doing

you have to wetsand the car

and buff it out with a rotary

both skills should be only done by a professionalHow much would it run to paint my car?
MAACO is a national low-cost chain that can often paint a car for between $250-$400.

Middle of the road auto body shops often will quote prices between $1,000 and $2,000, depending on the amount of work.

Custom body shops can charge $4,000 to $8,000 if it involves removing many parts, changing the color of the car, detailing the engine, rebuilding mechanical parts, chrome plating, etc.

It all depends on how nice of a paint job you want, but anything less than the ';right way'; (proper materials, tools, techniques, etc.), isn't going to last all that much (if at all) longer than the ';Krylon'; method.
1st you need to sand off the old paint or strip most of it off. You can buy paint stripper to do this ,but it is very messy. A cheap way out is to use scotch brite pads and scuff up the old paint as best as you can. then you need duct tape to tape off anything that you dont want to get paint on, such as the metal trim around the glass or door locks. You can cover the glass with newspaper to cover as much as you need. Then you need a good primer paint to paint the entire car with. Dont know how much you need because i dont know how big of a car you have. Then you need to buy the actual paint you are going to paint the car with. You may want to ask for an accelerator so the paint dries quickly. Where you buy the paint from, they can mix that right into the mixer for you. Then once the entire car is painted, you may want to buy some 2000 grit wet sandpaper to repair any runs that appear in the paint when it becomes dry. i would let the car dry for a few days before attempting to wet sand the paint. Let it dry good. So then you need a sanding block and wet sandpaper to rub out the runs or any other imperfections. Are you putting any clear coats on the black when it is done? This will really make the black jump out. So once you wet sand the imperfections, then you need a good orbital polisher or a wheel to wheel out the dullness from your wetsanding. Then finally you apply some glazing wax/sealer and microfiber cloths to bring out the shine. Couple hundred dollars should cover it $300-600

So are you still sure you want to do this yourself? It is a lot of work and time. Details of taping off the car is a lot of work too. So how does Maaco do it for $300??? maybe you should bring it there and get it back in a day or 2 all done. You can detail the shine later..

good luck.....
Unless your friend is an experienced car painter, your car is not the place to start! Car painting is a real skill; you could end up with a mess -- runs, cracks, fish eyes, etc! Find a good ';body-man'; (or ';body-woman!';) to paint it!

I remember when Earl Scheib would paint your car for $19.95!
do you want to paint some part or the whole the vechile?
