How to prep/tape a room for two-tone paint?

This weekend we're decorating the nursery for our expected little girl. The plan is to do a light pink on top, lavender on bottom and separate it with a whitel chair rail. I've never painted a room two colors like this before---how do I tape it off? Should we paint the top first then the bottom, or can we both work on it at the same time? Thanks for all your help! Get some green painters tape (the good stuff-kind of expensive) that is norrower than the chair rail you will be putting up. Draw a level pencil line around the room at the top of the tape line (measuring down from the ceiling may be easier than up from the floor). Put the tape up around the room being careful not to pull the tape to tight, or it may release at the corners.

Now paint your top color first, being careful not to cross the tape.

As that is drying, paint the bottom-again being careful not to cross the tape. If you need two coats do this over again.

When it's dry, lightly razor-knife each side of the tape to cut the paint.

Remove the tape and install the chair rail. How to prep/tape a room for two-tone paint?

I would tape off the wall at the dividing point where the two colors will meet. Then, I'd paint the top color first so that if any paint drips down, you can just paint over it with the second color. Wait for the first color to dry completely before painting with the second color. Keep in mind you may have to do a second coat on both colors.

%26amp; congratulations on the baby girl =)
Paint the top first since you will most likely encounter drips/running. I think you know how to use the tape... since your having a kid and all.
